The Albuquerque Local of the Democratic Socialists of America was started as an organizing committee in February of 2017. On June 15, 2017, we were officially recognized as a chapter by the national organization. Since then we have been working tirelessly to organize like-minded people in the Albuquerque Metro area and the I-40 corridor.
We believe in a version of socialism that is profoundly democratic and deliberative. We feel that the means and resources of production should be held by the larger collective. We also believe in democratic economic planning, equitable distribution of resources, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. We believe that workers require strong unions to fight for better working conditions and just wages.
We, as part of the larger DSA organization, reject an economic order based on privately held profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on any aspect of identity, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We aim to achieve our goals through nonviolent direct action and building a working-class movement that extends beyond electoral politics.
We want to create a world that our descendants are proud that we built. We want to create a future where one vote truly equals one voice and not a dollar amount. We want to ensure they have equal and open access to clean water, clean air, clean food, and safe shelter. If you want to help us in this dream, contact us and join us at dsausa.org/join.
